Taxes and Merchant of Record

What You're Responsible For

When you sell digital products on 3DIMLI, your buyers pay through the payment provider connected to your seller account, such as PayPal, Stripe, or Razorpay.

3DIMLI helps you create your store, list products, manage orders, and connect payment providers. However, 3DIMLI is not the merchant of record for your sales.

This means you, as the seller, are responsible for understanding and managing the taxes that apply to your business.

What does “merchant of record” mean?

A merchant of record is the business or person legally responsible for selling the product to the customer.

The merchant of record is usually responsible for things like:

  • collecting the correct tax when required
  • issuing invoices or receipts where needed
  • reporting sales to tax authorities
  • paying VAT, GST, sales tax, or similar taxes
  • handling tax records for their business

On 3DIMLI, the seller is generally the merchant of record for their own product sales.

Is 3DIMLI the merchant of record?

No. 3DIMLI is not the merchant of record for seller product sales.

3DIMLI does not sell your products on your behalf. Instead, 3DIMLI gives you tools to create your store, publish products, and connect your own payment provider.

When a buyer purchases your product, the payment is processed through your connected payment provider and paid directly to you, based on that provider’s rules.

What sellers are responsible for

As a seller, you are responsible for checking the tax rules that apply to your business, your country, and your buyers.

This may include:

  • VAT
  • GST
  • sales tax
  • income tax
  • digital goods tax
  • local business taxes
  • invoice or receipt requirements
  • tax registration requirements
  • tax reporting and filing

Tax rules can vary depending on where you live, where your buyer lives, what you sell, and how much you sell.

What 3DIMLI does

3DIMLI provides tools to help you sell digital products online.

3DIMLI may help you with:

  • creating your seller store
  • listing and managing products
  • showing product prices
  • connecting supported payment providers
  • displaying order and transaction information
  • giving buyers access to purchased digital products
  • managing your 3DIMLI subscription or platform plan

3DIMLI does not replace your accountant, tax advisor, or payment provider’s tax tools.

What 3DIMLI does not collect for sellers

For seller product sales, 3DIMLI does not usually collect or remit taxes on behalf of sellers.

This means 3DIMLI does not automatically:

  • collect VAT for your product sales
  • collect GST for your product sales
  • collect sales tax for your product sales
  • file tax returns for your seller business
  • report your income to your local tax authority
  • decide whether your products are taxable
  • decide whether you need tax registration
  • issue tax advice for your business

You should review your local tax requirements before selling.

How payment providers may help with taxes

Your connected payment provider may offer tax, invoice, or reporting features. The available options depend on the provider, your country, your account type, and your setup.

PayPal

PayPal may provide payment records, seller reports, and tax-related settings depending on your country and account type.

You should check your PayPal Business account settings to see what tax options are available for your business.

Stripe

Stripe may offer tax tools such as Stripe Tax, which can help with tax calculation, collection, and reporting in supported regions.

If you use Stripe, check your Stripe Dashboard and Stripe Tax settings to understand what is available for your account.

Razorpay

Razorpay may provide invoice and GST-related features for eligible Indian businesses.

If you use Razorpay, check your Razorpay Dashboard, GST details, invoice settings, and account documentation to understand how taxes are handled for your business.

Do buyers pay 3DIMLI or the seller?

For seller product purchases, buyers pay through the seller’s connected payment provider.

This means the buyer’s payment goes through the provider connected to the seller account, such as PayPal, Stripe, or Razorpay.

3DIMLI platform subscription fees are separate from buyer payments for your products.

What about 3DIMLI subscription fees?

Your 3DIMLI subscription or platform plan is separate from your product sales.

If you pay 3DIMLI for a seller plan, storage plan, or other platform service, that billing may have its own invoice, tax, or billing rules.

This is separate from the taxes you may owe on your own product sales.

Do I need to register for VAT, GST, or sales tax?

That depends on your country, your business type, your revenue, and where your buyers are located.

Some sellers may need to register for tax before collecting it. Others may only need to register after crossing a certain threshold.

Because tax rules are different in each region, 3DIMLI cannot tell you whether you must register.

You should speak with a local accountant or tax advisor before collecting tax from buyers.

Should I include tax in my product price?

This depends on your local rules and your payment provider setup.

Some sellers show prices inclusive of tax. Others add tax during checkout through their payment provider.

Before deciding, check:

  • your local tax rules
  • your buyer location rules
  • your payment provider settings
  • whether your product is taxable
  • whether your business is registered for VAT, GST, or sales tax

Keep your own records

Sellers should keep their own business and tax records.

Useful records may include:

  • order history
  • payment provider reports
  • invoices or receipts
  • refund records
  • tax collected
  • payout history
  • business expenses
  • subscription fees paid to 3DIMLI

Your payment provider dashboard is usually the best place to download detailed payment and payout reports.

Important recommendation

Tax rules can be complex, especially when selling digital products internationally.

We recommend speaking with a qualified accountant, tax consultant, or local advisor who understands your country’s rules and your business setup.

3DIMLI cannot provide legal, tax, or accounting advice.

Summary

3DIMLI helps you build and manage your digital product store, but sellers are responsible for their own tax obligations.

In most cases:

  • 3DIMLI is not the merchant of record for seller product sales
  • sellers are responsible for tax collection and reporting
  • payment providers may offer tax or invoice tools
  • tax rules depend on your country, buyer location, and business setup
  • sellers should consult a local accountant or tax advisor

Keeping your tax setup clear from the beginning helps you sell with more confidence.
